Fans could not believe the technical foul that was called on Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark late in Sunday's championship game of the women’s NCAA Tournament at American Airlines Cener in Dallas.

On the play in question, LSU was leading Iowa 73-64 in the third quarter when Monika Czinano was called for a foul. Clark was subsequently assessed a technical foul for tossing the ball behind her back.

“You have got to be kidding me!” ESPN announcer Ryan Ruocco said upon viewing a replay of the egregious call.

The two fouls combined to give LSU four free throws attempts. Angel Reese missed her two attempts -- to at least somewhat cool the burn of the bad call -- while Alexis Morris made both of her attempts to push the Tigers to a 75-64 advantage. LSU also received the ball following all of this action.

Ultimately, Iowa was unable to close enough of the gap and lost 102-85 to the Tigers.

For her part, Clark went 9-of-22 from the field for 30 points and eight assists in the loss. The junior guard had scored 41 points in each of Iowa's previous two tournament games before Iowa came up short at the championship door.
