Watch: LSU stuns No. 17 Kentucky on buzzer-beater

LSU gave college basketball an early dose of madness in its upset win over Associated Press No. 17 Kentucky.

Tigers sophomore forward Tyrell Ward hit the winning shot after senior guard Jordan Wright's shot was blocked. Wright made a heads-up play after getting stuffed, finding Ward before his momentum took him out of bounds.

The win is the second consecutive one-point victory for LSU (14-12, 6-7 in SEC) against an AP Top 25 team. On Saturday, the Tigers defeated No. 20 South Carolina 64-63.

"College Basketball Live" noted Joe Lunardi says Kentucky (18-8, 8-5 in SEC) fell to a projected six-seed in the NCAA Tournament because of the loss.

LSU is playing the role of spoiler perfectly, but based on its recent performances, its season is far from over. The Tigers play the bottom four teams in the SEC (Georgia, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, Missouri) in their final five games. Their toughest is against Mississippi State (18-8, 7-6), which won 83-71 over Ole Miss on Wednesday.

An NCAA Tournament berth is a long shot, but LSU, in its second season under Matt McMahon, could play its way into consideration with a strong finish to the regular season and a deep run in the SEC Tournament.

At the very least, the Tigers made it clear on Tuesday night that they're a team no one should want to play for however long their season lasts.
