Watch: Seton Hall wins NIT on late layup vs. Indiana State

Seton Hall and Indiana State both had strong arguments for the NCAA Tournament and probably should have been included in the field of 68. They were not. But they did not let that stop them from putting on quite a show in the NIT, with Seton Hall taking the championship on Thursday night with a thrilling 79-77 win over the Sycamores.

Dre Davis ended up scoring the winning basket with a late, spinning lay-up in the paint to give Seton Hall the lead.

Davis had 18 points in the win while Al-Amir Dawes and Kadary Richmond both topped 20 points. Dawes led the way with a team-high 24 points.

No, it is not an NCAA championship and it probably is not even as good as getting a bid into the tournament, even if a bid would have resulted in a loss in the first game.

But there is still something to be said for being able to bring some hardware and a banner back to your campus after a strong season.

Seton Hall went 20-12 during the regular season, finishing in fourth place in a tough Big East.

After its run through the NIT,  the Pirates finished the season with a 25-12 record, which is its highest win total since the 2015-16 season.
