Watch: Tyrese Hunter hits wild three to ice Iowa State's upset win over LSU

Tyrese Hunter made his name known around the country Friday night.

Hunter had a huge performance in Iowa State's upset victory over LSU, pulling up from deep to drain a three and seal the 59-54 win. The Cyclones were one of three 11 seeds to beat a six seed in the first round this year.

It was a bit of a slow start for Hunter, as he scored just five points in the first half. His teammates picked up the slack, though, as Iowa State led 24-19 going into halftime.

In the second half, Hunter began to take over. He came out and drilled a three on the Cyclones' first possession off an assist from Tristan Enaruna, then dished to Aljaz Kunc for a three a few minutes later. After LSU tied the game not long later, Hunter poured in yet another trey to put Iowa State back ahead — a lead they would not relinquish.

Down the stretch, Hunter was just as big for the Cyclones. He hit two threes in less than two minutes midway through the second half to keep the lead, then stepped up big when it got closer. With just under two minutes left and Iowa State leading 51-50, Hunter sunk a three out of a timeout to make it a two-score game.

LSU cut it to two with a layup from Tari Eason, then Izaiah Brockington hit two free throws for Iowa State. Mwani Wilkinson responded with a layup, making it 56-54 Iowa State as LSU called a timeout.

Coming out of the break, the Cyclones drained some clock before giving it to Hunter up top. As the shot clock dipped under 10, he got isolated on a Tiger defender. A solid five feet behind the three-point line, he took a few dribbles before swiftly pulling up for a jumper. Swish.
