Welcome to the ACC, SMU Basketball

The ACC officially welcomed SMU to the conference this week on July 1.

Check out the summary below to get to know the Mustangs and what they bring to the conference.

COACHING STAFF

SMU has a brand new head coach in its first season in the ACC: Andy Enfield. Enfield left USC to become the head coach of the Mustangs on April 1, 2024. Enfield made a quick name for himself as head coach of the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles, leading the team to the Sweet 16 years ago. He then led USC to five NCAA Tournaments.

However, the Mustangs brought in a talented recruiting class this offseason, headlined by a former ACC guard who is making the move to Dallas from Wake Forest.

LAST SEASON

The Mustangs finished last season 20-13 overall with an 11-7 record in AAC play. SMU took down West Virginia and Florida State in its non-conference schedule last year, and fell to Dayton, Wisconsin, Arizona State, and others.

SMU was upset by No. 11 seed Temple in the American tournament. It then qualified for the NIT, where it lost to No. 1 seed Indiana State 101-92.
