On Thursday morning, the West Virginia basketball program announced that it has set a date for the 192nd edition of the men’s basketball Backyard Brawl against the Pitt Panthers.
According to a university release, the two programs will meet at the WVU Coliseum on Thursday, November 13. This will mark the eighth consecutive non-COVID season that the two programs have met.
Pitt has taken each of the last two games in the series, with an 86-62 win in Pittsburgh this past November serving as their most recent matchup.
Prior to the Panthers’ two-game winning streak, WVU had put together a six-game winning streak that dated back to February 16, 2012. The two teams have met 191 times in all-time series play that began in 1906 with WVU leading, 101-90.
West Virginia and Pitt are in the middle of a renewed four-game series that was announced back in January 2024. After squaring off in Pittsburgh last season—and with another trip to the Steel City lined up for 2026-27—this year’s edition returns to Morgantown.
The Backyard Brawl will come back to the Coliseum again in 2027-28 to close out the current agreement.
The Mountaineers will still be getting used to Ross Hodge being on the bench when this game takes place, as he’ll be serving in his first season at the helm in Morgantown. In their lone seasons under Darian DeVries, WVU put together a 19-13 (10-10 Big 12) record and were the first team out of the NCAA Tournament.
