If the Mountaineers are going to be successful on the court during the 2024-25 season, it’ll be because WVU has one of the top players in the country. That’s at least what one national outlet is saying about Tucker DeVries by ranking him among the top 100 players in the nation.
“The DeVries Family Business has relocated from Drake to West Virginia, but the same great service is on tap. DeVries is slated to be one of the best wings in the country. He’s 6-7 with a flamethrower for a jumper. DeVries is an all-around star who passes it well, rebounds at a high level, guards up to the standard and gets to the charity stripe left and right. If West Virginia wins enough games, DeVries could make a run at Big 12 Player of the Year,” said Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports.

This evisceration of Bradley, the best defense in the Missouri Valley, was insanely impressive. Couple toughhh buckets on two-time DPOY Malevy Leons who signed with OKC. pic.twitter.com/p1YhBn8Ftl

DeVries (6-foot-7) averaged 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists for the Bulldogs this past season. DeVries shot 44% from the field, 36% from three and 81% from the free throw line. DeVries is the reigning back-to-back Missouri Valley Player of the Year. DeVries was regarded as a top transfer in the portal this offseason by many outlets, including analyst Andy Katz.
DeVries has one year of eligibility remaining and decided to join his dad at West Virginia.
“[My dad] certainly felt like this is a place he can be successful and excited to be a part of. And we were all in full support of that. For me to be able to come here my senior year, I’m really looking forward to it,” Tucker said in March.
