The WVU basketball program has announced the hiring of another member of Darian DeVries’ staff. On Friday morning, West Virginia made the addition of Kory Bartlett official.

Barnett joins the Mountaineers after spending the last six seasons under Steve Alford at both Nevada and UCLA. This announcement comes two days after reports circulated about Barnett joining DeVries in Morgantown.

DeVries offered the comments below about hiring Barnett as part of WVU’s press release.

“We are thrilled to have Kory join our basketball staff as he is one of the great, bright young coaches in college basketball,” DeVries said. “He has worked his way up during his career and really did a great job at Nevada, especially working with their defense and having them ranked at the top nationally. Kory is an incredible person and family man,” said DeVries.

Barnett started his coaching career in 2013 as a graduate assistant at Indiana, the school he played for from 2009-2012.

Earlier in the week, WVU also confirmed reports about bringing in former Illinois assistant Chester Frazier as DeVries’ associate head coach. Before coaching at Illinois, Frazier was on staff at Kansas State and Virginia Tech with Bruce Weber and Mike Young. Frazier has played a large part in recruiting, having ties within the DMV area. Frazier is a native of Baltimore, Md.

The Barnett announcement continues solidifying DeVries’ WVU basketball staff, one that also includes Nick Norton and Nelson Hernandez as general manager.

A recent report from Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68 revealed Trent Michaels as West Virginia’s new director of basketball operations.
