WVU F Akok Akok will miss the season opener against Missouri State, per interim HC Josh Eilert. Akok is recovering from a health issue suffered in West Virginia’s exhibition game last Friday and there’s no timetable for his return.

Akok was admitted to Ruby Memorial Hospital after collapsing on the floor in the second half during the George Mason. Akok was on the court for about 13 minutes with the medical team before being stretchered out of the coliseum. According to teammate Quinn Slazinski, Akok was texting the team following their win.

Eilert provided updates on Sunday and Monday mentioning that Akok was at home and was receiving treatment. Akok has also been tested daily.

Akok is in his first season at West Virginia and his final year of college basketball. Akok transferred in from Georgetown and began his career at UConn.
