LSU women’s basketball senior duo remains undecided on final year of eligibility

Notably, if they so choose, each player on this season’s roster have the option of returning for yet another year of women’s college basketball. Still, as much fun as it might be to think about what that could look like for the program in 2025, it’s ultimately up to the players to make a decision that’s best for them.

In turn, one of the major topics of discussion of late has surrounded whether LSU women’s basketball senior duo Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith will return for one more year.

While Reese was the only one of the pair who played a role in last year’s national championship team, there’s no denying that both athletes have left an impact on the program as we look ahead to the 2024 postseason. With that, it’s no wonder why many surrounding the program hope to have them back for one more season.

Unfortunately, for any fans who were hoping to get an answer today as a part of the senior day festivities, it appears as though the wait has been extended.

When asked about their decisions, the pair shared similar responses, explaining that their focus is on the now and continuing their winning ways with this year’s team.

“I’m focused on the now,” star forward Angel Reese said when asked if she’s leaning any specific direction. “Going into the SEC Tournament is my focus, and I won’t make a decision until after my last game.”

Shortly after, Van Lith shared a similar sentiment, saying, “I’m living in the present. Right now I’m playing college basketball, so I’m not thinking about anything besides trying to win a national championship this year.”

While they technically remain undecided on their eligibility, and will until the season comes to a conclusion to make an announcement, one thing is certain. Both Reese and Van Lith are incredible basketball players and have the potential to continue being great for years to come.

For now, though, focus remains on this year’s team as the SEC Tournament will get going later this week on Friday, March 8 in Greenville, SC.
