No. 9 UCLA women's basketball postpones game due to lack of players

The women's basketball program of the UCLA Bruins, ranked No. 9 in the country, announced on Thursday that the team won't face the Colorado Buffaloes on Friday, as scheduled, because of a lack of healthy and available players.

"Our medical team made the really tough decision that we don't have enough healthy players to play our game on Friday," head coach Cori Close explained in the prepared statement. "The health and well-being of our student-athletes are the priority, and I trust our medical team's decision."

UCLA added that the team cannot meet the Pac-12 requirement of seven healthy scholarship players before Friday evening. It's expected the conference will be able to reschedule the game for later in the season.

"UCLA still hopes to play its scheduled game against (the Utah Utes) on Sunday, Jan. 10, but further evaluation from medical personnel will be required," the school said. "Additional information regarding the potential rescheduling of Friday's game and the future status of Sunday's game against Utah will be announced when final decisions are made."

The Bruins improved to 6-2 on the season with a 73-71 victory over the No. 11-ranked Oregon Ducks last Sunday.
