Shedeur Sanders apparently was not the only player who got prank-called on draft night.
Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports reported on Sunday that tight end Tyler Warren was also called by pranksters ahead of his selection in the NFL Draft on Thursday. Schultz says that Warren received a call when the New York Jets were on the clock at No. 7.
Warren’s camp reportedly believes that it was the same number and/or area code that was involved in the prank call to Shedeur Sanders. The ex-Colorado star Sanders was prank-called on Friday during his draft party by someone claiming to be New Orleans Saints GM Mickey Loomis. After leading Sanders to believe that he was about to get drafted, the caller on the other line instead told Sanders, “You’re gonna have to wait a little bit longer” (video here).
That prank call occurred in the second round, seemingly around the time that the Saints were on the clock at pick No. 40 (where they took quarterback Tyler Shough instead). Now it looks like Warren got hit by the pranksters a full day before that on Thursday.
Warren did not end up going to the Jets at No. 7 (where New York selected offensive tackle Armand Membou) but fortunately did not have to wait too much longer to get the actual call that he had been drafted. The Indianapolis Colts wound up taking Warren with the No. 14 overall pick.
The NFL is now reportedly looking into the prank on Sanders and will presumably look into the situation with Warren as well. NFL teams are the only ones who were supposed to have access to those numbers of the draftees, so the league will be trying to figure out how multiple of those numbers made their way into the hands of pranksters.
