Background

Coming out of Tyler Lee High School in Tyler TX, Beaux Limmer was a three-star recruit, ranking as the No. 8 center prospect in the country, per 247Sports. Limmer held offers from Baylor, Houston, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, and Vanderbilt before committing to Arkansas.

In 2022, Limmer was named second-team All-SEC at guard. In 2023, he didn't receive all-conference honors. Limmer started 41 of his 50 games played for the Razorbacks with 33 snaps at left guard, 868 snaps at center, and 2,018 snaps at right guard. Additionally, Limmer is considered one of the strongest players on the Arkansas football team, squatting 605 pounds and benching a team-best 445 pounds.

According to PFF, Limmer allowed 12 pressures and three sacks across 422 pass-blocking snaps in 2023. He allowed 12 pressures and four sacks on 451 pass-blocking snaps in 2022.

Among 131 FBS centers to play at least 500 snaps in 2023, Limmer had the 17th-best overall PFF grade, the ninth-best run-blocking grade, and the 100th-best pass-blocking grade. Additionally, he ranked 71st in pass-block efficiency. While his pass-blocking grades aren't impressive, I feel the tape supports his pass-blocking abilities better than his grades.

Strengths

  • Plays with excellent leverage and lift
  • Aggressive hands pack a punch
  • Has the stuff you can't teach
  • Moves well laterally
  • Offers guard versatility in a pinch
  • Impressive leg drive to displace vertically
  • Understands pressure points and angles at a high level
  • Called protections in his final year at Arkansas
  • Has vice grips for hands
  • Master of his craft
  • Uses excellent body positioning and back arch to absorb once he sets his anchor
  • Not afraid to do the dirty work
  • Absolute grinder

Weaknesses

  • Gives up ground on initial contact before settling into anchor in pass protection
  • Lacks core strength and hip flexibility to sustain anchor for long
  • Tendency to lunge into run blocks
  • Ends up off-balance or on the ground at times due to lunging
  • Average athlete
  • Tends to be a step slow when defenders cross face with limited ability to recover
  • Gives away snap count with a head nod on occasion

Final Thoughts and Chicago Bears Fit for Beaux Limmer

When I watch Beaux Limmer's tape, I get hyped up. I see his ranking on other big boards outside the top 100, which surprises me. I have to believe that Limmer will be a riser come draft day. He's one of the players who improved his draft stock the most at the Senior Bowl.

Limmer currently has a top-75 grade from our team, which puts four centers inside our top 75 players, along with Jackson Powers-Johnson, Zach Frazier, and Sedrick Van Pran. A lot stands to change still, and the NFL Combine will surely impact our rankings. But if Limmer falls outside the top 100, I'm confident in saying that he'll be a steal come draft day.

Limmer is a player who's angry that you'd even think about lining up across from him. While he lacks ideal girth, he makes up for that with his aggressive play style and outstanding technique. There are some areas to clean up, such as lunging and the ability to hold up against initial contact. But he plays such a clean and determined style of football that I believe he'll have a long NFL career (barring injury).

Best case, I see Limmer becoming a key contributor to an NFL team. Not quite a Pro Bowl-caliber player, but a consistently better-than-average starter. At the least, I see Limmer being a swing offensive lineman who can fill in at any spot along the interior. That versatility to play guard is extremely valuable because there's not much demand in the NFL for backup centers who don't have positional versatility in their toolbox.

Limmer could be a fit for the Chicago Bears in the second half of Day 2. He's best suited for a zone-run scheme similar to what the Bears will run under new offensive coordinator Shane Waldron. With all the centers I've discussed though, the thing with projecting the to the Bears is that Chicago will likely have a rookie quarterback under center.

While don't love the idea of starting Limmer right away, I do love the idea of taking him in the fourth round as a swing interior lineman who can start if an injury hits. Then, in a year or two, the Bears could look to him to become the starter at any spot along the interior. That sounds like a solid third-round pick to me.
