Offensive guards should get more love.
Everyone along an NFL offensive line has to do everything right, and guards can't just be the big guys who work in a box.
The 2022 draft was the only time. since 2013 that more than two guards were taken in the first round. There might not be any going among the first 32 picks this year, but it's a deeper bunch than normal.
There's talent up top, plenty of Day 3 value picks, and lots of options among the top 20 offensive guard prospects for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Quarterbacks | Running Backs | Wide Receivers
Alabama, 6-5, 321
NFL Draft Projection: 2nd Round
The College Perspective: In a draft full of excellent guards who’ll succeed, but don’t quite have the bulk, Booker is the big man who fits the part. No, he’s not all that fast, but he’s a true leader who was good from the start, stepped up over the last two seasons, and knows how to play the position. He’s the guard you work a line around.
Ohio State, 6-4, 315
NFL Draft Projection: 2nd Round
The College Perspective: One of those superstar Ohio State recruits who played up to the hype, he’s a four-year producer who’ll step in and get things moving for the running game. He’s got the right look, the power, and the maturity, but he’s not a flashy guard. But he’ll be quiet - you won’t notice his man doing too much.
Arizona, 6-4, 324
NFL Draft Projection: 3rd Round
The College Perspective: One of the better all-around blockers in the draft, he’s got the athleticism to be tried out at tackle - his position at Arizona - but he’s a dream-looking NFL guard. He’ll have to tweak his style a bit and be more of a mauler, but he’s a very-quick 324-pounder who can run.
Georgia, 6-7, 308
NFL Draft Projection: 2nd Round
The College Perspective: A great athlete for the interior, he moves well, has been through the SEC wars, and never gets cheated on a play. He’s missing the NFL bulk, though. A bit of a tweener, he’s not a fit at tackle and at 308 he’ll get bullied a little bit. But don’t overthink this too much - he’ll start right away.
Purdue, 6-4, 303
NFL Draft Projection: 3rd Round
The College Perspective: The raw size isn’t there - he has to work to get over 300 pounds - but he moves so well. He was a right tackle last season and could see a little time outside, but he started out as a guard - that’s his more natural position. It’ll take the right offensive fit, but get him on the move and he’ll be a star in someone’s interior.
LSU, 6-5, 315
NFL Draft Projection: 4th Round
The College Perspective: He’s here as a guard because that’s his future, but he has the look of a dream NFL right tackle, where he played all three years at LSU. The potential is there to be one of the three best guards in the draft, but he has to tweak his style a bit. Just okay in pass protection as a tackle, he’ll have to become a bit more of a mauler.
West Virginia, 6-7, 313
NFL Draft Projection: 4th Round
The College Perspective: A big left tackle at West Virginia, he’ll work better as a quick guard with all the tools to, at very worst, be a versatile option to play anywhere if he doesn’t start right away. The only reason he’ll slide is because of how teams value the position, but he’ll be that rare Day 3 pick who starts for the next five years.
Miami, 6-6, 319
NFL Draft Projection: 4th Round
The College Perspective: There’s no questioning Mario Cristobal when it comes to offensive linemen, but Rivers is a guard who played left tackle for the last few years. The biggest issue is health - he’s had zero luck staying in one piece. The size and power are there, though, to eventually be a people mover.
Oregon State, 6-5, 299
NFL Draft Projection: 6th Round
The College Perspective: He’ll drop because he’s too light and needs to fit the exact right scheme, but he’s a leader among leaders, has seven years of college experience, and he makes up for his deficiencies with his strength and technique. He knows how to block, but there’s no bulk.
LSU, 6-6, 317
NFL Draft Projection: 4th Round
The College Perspective: Don’t ask him to move too much and he’ll be just fine. He worked at tackle at FIU and a little bit in his three years at LSU, but he was a star at guard for the Tigers. There’s enough size and power to be a Day 3 producer who’ll power away for a ground game.
