2025 NFL Draft: Marcus Mbow Scouting Report

Marcus Mbow is one of the most athletic offensive linemen prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. He is also an instinctual player who is a true fighter and plays through the whistle on every single play. Mbow played right tackle for Purdue in 2024, garnering Honorable Big Ten honors for his efforts. Before that, he started 29 games at right guard in the previous two seasons, and also earned Honorable Big Ten honors. He has the quickness to drive on kick and pull blocks to the second level for chunk plays in the running game, and he is aggressive enough to make first contact. Mbow does lack the preferred size and mass to overpower defenders in the front seven in both blocking phases, but his skill set would help an offensive line that uses a zone-blocking scheme.

Mbow is the No. 50 prospect on NFL Draft Analyst Daniel Jeremiah’s Top 50 prospect rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft.

Strengths

  • He explodes out of his initial stance and attacks his target with force.
  • Processes his blocking assignments and can adjust his assignments accordingly.
  • He can use his quickness to take the proper angles to make blocks at the second level of the defense.
  • Has the aggression and technique to finish blocks and play to the whistle.
  • Versatility to play both guard positions and right tackle.
  • High football character and IQ.
  • Excellent stab and hand technique in pass protection.

Weaknesses

  • Tends to be over-aggressive and takes poor blocking angles on occasion.
  • Needs to add overall mass to be an NFL starting guard, and doesn’t have the desired arm length to be a starting tackle in the NFL.
  • He cannot consistently redirect power rushers due to his lack of size and mass.
  • Needs to use his hips under his hands more to be better at driving blocks.
  • Needs to improve his footwork to avoid over-setting in pass protection.

Draft Projection: Second-third round

Bottom Line on Marcus Mbow

Marcus Mbow is a talented, athletic, and versatile prospect. He is not a perfect prospect, but he has some of those special traits that any offensive line coach would love to accentuate, and some of his shortcomings can be rectified by being in a professional weight training and nutrition program. Mbow’s perfect fit is at right guard in a zone-run heavy scheme (Kyle Shanahan or Sean McVay offensive scheme for example) that shows his athletic ability, as opposed to a power running scheme. Having played tackle in college is also a plus for Mbow, as he can play swing tackle or be an eligible tackle player in short-yardage situations. All in All, Marcus Mbow is a high-effort, high-character player who can be welcomed in any offensive line room and will eventually become a starter.
