Background

A former four-star recruit and the 43rd-ranked prospect in the 2022 class (per 247Sports), Isaiah Bond started his college career at Alabama before transferring to Texas in 2024. He showed flashes of elite deep-threat ability across both stops but never became a high-volume target. He posted 671 yards and four touchdowns on 75 targets with Alabama in 2023. After moving to Texas, he had 540 yards and five touchdowns on 56 targets.

A true big-play receiver, the vast majority of his targets are deep shots or screens. This is likely why his overall volume during his college career wasn’t massive, although it could also relate to his effort level. Bond’s highlight film is incredibly impressive, yet his actual game film can leave you a little less enthused. On tape, Bond gave 110% or seemingly took plays off, with little in between. This may explain why his total usage dropped significantly as Texas advanced further into the playoffs, recording fewer than 10 total targets across the final four games of his college career.

Strengths

  • He has legit 4.3-type speed; he is a burner with the ball in his hands.
  • Can turn the corner effortlessly and explode past defenders.
  • Bond is a dangerous deep threat that thrives on deep-breaking routes.
  • He is a YAC monster and hard to bring down with a low center of gravity.
  • He has strong hands and body control and can make tough catches.
  • Bond is not afraid of contact and brings good physicality despite his smaller frame.
  • He can threaten DBs at the top of routes, forcing them into tough decisions.

Weaknesses

  • He struggles against press coverage and gets swallowed up by a good jam technique.
  • Route running lacks details, as he relies more on raw speed than technique.
  • Inconsistent effort. Bond sometimes looks like he’s going through the motions.
  • Bond disappeared in Texas' final stretch—only nine targets over the last four games.

Final Thoughts and Chicago Bears Fit for Isaiah Bond

If Ben Johnson wants to add someone to fill that deep threat role (a la Jameson Williams), Isaiah Bond must be considered. He can flip the field instantly, and Texas even used him similary to how Johnson used Williams in Detroit. His overall polish as a receiver will need work. Right now, Bond wins with pure athleticism more than refined route-running, and his struggles against physical corners could be a problem at the next level. But you can’t teach the type of speed he has, and I could see the Bears taking a gamble on that.

It will be interesting to see where Bond goes in the draft. If he is still on the board when the Bears are picking at #72, that’s the sweet spot for him, and I’d like his fit with Chicago. With Moore and Odunze already there, he would have a lighter load as a rookie while still being a legit day 1 deep threat for the Bears while he refines the other aspects of his game.

We’ll see if he falls that far…
