You don’t think I’d forget about the guys that greatly impact the field position game, would you? We don’t see a ton drafted each year, typically about 2 from each position get drafted. Still, with the critical need to have ” automatic ” kickers and punters with a big leg, it is important to keep an eye on the college game and see which ones could be the next great kickers and punters in the 2025 NFL Draft!

RANK | POS | NAME | SCHOOL |
1 | K | Tyler Loop | Arizona |
2 | P | Jack Stonehouse | Syracuse |
3 | K | Ryan Fitzgerald | Florida State |
4 | P | Ryan Heicher | Arkansas State |
5 | P | James Burnip | Alabama |
6 | K | Maddux Trujillo | Temple |
7 | K | Alex Raynor | Kentucky |
8 | P | Tommy Doman | Michigan |
9 | P | Jeremy Crawshaw | Florida |
10 | K | Brett Auburn | Texas |
Arizona’s Tyler Loop isn’t “automatic” at 50 yards+ but he’s pretty close to it, He’s 3/4 from 50+ as of the writing of this article, He’s missed 3 field goals so far this season and is perfect on extra points so far. You regularly see teams moving on from kickers, looking for their long-term answer at the position because it’s not the easiest thing to do, so a player like Loop looks like someone I’d see a team look at because of how strong his leg is.
After Loop, Fitzgerald, Trujillo, Raynor, and Texas’ Brett Auburn look like players I’d see (potentially) hearing their names called later in the NFL Draft. Knowing that typically we only see two drafted, my guess is that teams will look at the guys with the biggest legs, which also is fairly consistent (you’d think!).
On the punter’s side of things, Stonehouse is a guy I like, though Michigan’s Tommy Doman feels like a player I’d expect to get drafted come next spring. Stonehouse has done a good job having a hangtime longer than 4 seconds in every season at Syracuse, and that’s a big deal if you can give your special teams aces 4 seconds to get down the field that’s huge for field position.
Doman and Florida’s Jeremy Crawshaw have higher PFF grades than Stonehouse, so if you wanted to argue my rankings sure, it would make sense. When you look at Draft History for the positions, punters, and kickers can be taken from any school, at any level of college football, so I don’t see many trends to help point to whom might be the tops this season.
