The race to win a Big 12 championship is officially on. Conference play got underway in a big way in Week 3, providing some season-shaping results. Now, a lot more Big 12 teams are set to go head-to-head, attempting to eventually secure a spot in Arlington.
Of course, once at Jerry World, teams are going to want to see Commissioner Brett Yormark on the podium. Last season saw Joey McGuire‘s bunch do it. And according to the latest odds (All odds are courtesy of Polymarket), they remain the current 2026 favorites.
Traders have provided an updated look at how the Big 12 Championship race currently looks. Let’s check out the full thing below, as three teams continue to stand out more than others at this point of the season.
As mentioned, Texas Tech is the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12. Their percentage is more than double that of the team currently in second place. Traders are high on what Texas Tech’s future holds.
This comes after the Red Raiders jumped over a major hurdle on Friday night. Winning at home against Houston meant arguably the toughest game on the schedule is behind them. Not a bad place to be.
BYU played a rare road game against a non-Power Four conference member. Colorado State popped up, heading to Fort Collins for a tough matchup. Thankfully for the Cougars, they were able to come out winners on the other side.
In terms of the odds, it’s status quo for BYU. Second is where they stand by a comfortable margin. Other teams in the conference are beginning to creep up on them, making the race for No. 2 right now interesting.
While they remain third on the list, Utah is a big riser from the week prior. The Utes are all the way up to 16%, just behind their bitter in-state rival. Apparently, traders enjoyed seeing them beat Utah State 33-0.
The lights are officially about to turn on in the first year of Morgan Scalley‘s tenure. Saturday brings a trip to Ames, the first of nine Big 12 conference games. Entering Week 4, only two of those teams are currently ranked.
Kansas State is another team getting its Big 12 slate underway in Week 4. Collin Klein will hit the road for the first time in his career as a head coach to Nippert Stadium. Potentially a good gauge to see where the Wildcats stand.
Of the Big 12’s 16 teams, this is the final one over 10% in the odds. Everyone else has a single digit attached to its name. Kansas State still remains a tier below the top three, though.
In a different world, Houston is among the favorites to win the Big 12. But losing to Texas Tech by two points did hurt the odds a bit. There will be a slight hill to climb in order to make the championship game.
As for what’s ahead, it’s the final nonconfernece game of the year. Houston faces Georgia Southern on the road in Statesboro. Not the type of game you see in college football all too often.
Arizona State racked up some airline miles in recent weeks. After facing Texas A&M in College Station, Kenny Dillingham was wheels up across the pond to London. Yes, a Big 12 game got played at Wembley Stadium, and it’s one Arizona State won.
No better way to start your conference slate than a 1-0 record. The Sun Devils will get to sit on that record for some time now, getting a bye week after the long trip. A deserved rest for the program.
Oklahoma State was a bit of a darling entering the season. Eric Morris brought over a ton of familiar faces from North Texas, as people hoped the transition would be smooth. Thus far, mixed results. A loss to Tulsa, while beating Oregon and Murray State.
Big 12 fans are going to have eyes on the Cowboys once again. They are heading out East to Morgantown, one of the sneaky good games in Week 4. A lot will be on the line, especially when it comes to the odds.
Down in eighth place is Arizona. Being 0-1 in the Big 12 likely plays a role after losing to BYU in Week 3. Arizona has not had an opportunity to bounce back, still seeing nonconference opponents on the schedule.
One more remains in the form of Washington State. From there, it’s a whole bunch of Big 12 action. A potentially good schedule tidbit — five of their final eight games will be at home in Tucson.
Scott Frost has to feel back at home at UCF. While they are not up there as a favorite to win the Big 12 in the odds, the program does appear to be in a better place with Frost in charge. So far, the record sits at 2-1.
Traders are saying UCF has just a 5% chance of winning the Big 12. A taste of how they will fare in the conference comes on Wednesday, when TCU comes to Orlando. Frost will get a good look at his team.
Michael Hawkins has been an incredible player for West Virginia. Since winning the starting job, the Oklahoma transfer has been all over the field. Not just as a thrower but West Virginia will call his number on the ground too.
As mentioned, a big one is coming up on Saturday. West Virginia will host Oklahoma State for an early swing game for the two teams. Whoever winds up winning will have to feel like they have a great chance of competing for a spot in Arlington.
