Four weeks into the season, a few results have already occurred in the Big 12. Pathways to a conference championship are already being built. Contenders are emerging, with the original group of three recently expanding to four.
The latest odds to win the Big 12 Championship have been released heading into Week 5( All odds are courtesy of Polymarket). A quartet of teams is above 10% thanks to a big win on the road this past Saturday.
Let’s check out the full thing below, beginning at the top. To no surprise, the defending Big 12 champions still top the list. Outside of Joey McGuire‘s bunch, the remaining 15 teams are where a lot of the interest lies.
Texas Tech remains the favorite to win the Big 12 heading into Week 5. After all, they do have the conference’s best win. Now that the nonconference portion of the season is over, the Red Raiders are hoping to sprint to Arlington.
Of the eight Big 12 opponents left on the schedule, just one of them is ranked. Nov. 14 is a date everyone should have circled, as a trip to Stillwater will take place. In the meantime, the biggest question is whether or not another team can challenge Texas Tech.
Going on the road and winning by double digits will get you some love. Utah now finds itself in the general vicinity of Texas Tech in the odds. The Utes are at least closer to the Red Raiders than third place is to them.
Utah will get the luxury of watching Week 5 unfold from the couch. A bye week will take place before getting back in front of the fans in Salt Lake City. Not a bad start to Morgan Scalley‘s time in charge of the program.
BYU found itself at AT&T Stadium just a season ago. Head coach Kalani Sitake returned to Provo with the goal of getting back to the Lone Star State and flying home with a trophy. Right now, Polymarket odds have them on the outside looking in.
Rested up following an open Saturday, the Cougars hit the road to Fort Worth. Outside of the Holy War, Oct. 17 against Notre Dame is the biggest game remaining on the schedule. More College Football Playoff aspirations on the line than Big 12, though.
Eric Morris has experienced all kinds of emotions since taking over in Stillwater. Thankfully, the positive ones remain intact for the time being. Going to Morgantown for what was an important swing game and leaving with a win had to feel pretty good.
Oklahoma State is beginning to creep further up in the odds. The Cowboys could have been a dark horse selection before the season began. Now, everyone is waiting to see if they can crash the Big 12 party.
Willie Fritz felt good about his team entering 2026. Quarterback Conner Weigman returning was a huge plus for the program. Coming off a 10-win season, everyone in the Space City wants to reach the threshold again.
Results are not too shabby thus far. Four games have resulted in three wins. The lone loss is against a Big 12 opponent, and it occurred in Lubbock. Saturday will be the return to conference play, battling another space city.
Arizona State earned some rest and relaxation after the previous two weeks. Plenty of airline miles stacked up for the Sun Devils. Traveling to College Station is a difficult enough task, let alone going across the pond to London.
However, you have to imagine Kenny Dillingham is ready to see his team back on the field. Already 1-0 in Big 12 play, all their goals are still in front of them. Nine games remain on the schedule, five of which are in Tempe.
Nonconference is over for Arizona. Beating an old Pac-12 foe, Washington State, meant all attention is now on the Big 12. Unfortunately, BYU came to Tucson in Week 2 and earned a win, meaning the Wildcats are playing from behind.
Confidence in them winning the Big 12 is not all too high, at least according to traders. They are the final team to sit at 3%, as the remaining nine are at 2%. If nothing else, Arizona is not quite with the lowest group.
Even with a win, Cincinnati remains quite low in odds to win the Big 12. Home fans got to see a five-point victory over Collin Klein‘s program. Exactly how the Bearcats wanted to kick off what should be a tough stretch.
Travel is going to be a talking point this week for Cincinnati. A trip to the desert is on deck, facing the team directly above them. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 p.m. ET but 8 p.m. local time. Tough to navigate, to say the least.
As mentioned, Milan Puskar Stadium hosted the Big 12’s game of the weekend. Oklahoma State was the opponent, and whoever won was going to be in a nice position moving forward. Sadly for the Mountaineers, the result went against them.
Rushing for 335 yards is one of the positives to take away. However, Michael Hawkins could not get much going in the passing game. Head coach Rich Rodriguez will be asking questions of his defense as well.
Going on the road is always a difficult task. Especially for Klein, who has never done so as a head coach. The game at Nippert Stadium proved as such, with Kansas State dropping what they had to feel like was a winnable one.
Klein can regain some goodwill right away. Kansas State is hosting a ranked team, Houston, on Saturday afternoon. Beating the Cougars would bring back some good vibes around the program, which is looking for some in the head coach’s first year.
