Five weeks into the season, the Big 12 race is beginning to take shape. While the number of conference games grows every Saturday, most teams are already in the weeds. It’s not an easy slate for anybody, especially those looking for a trip to Arlington.
The latest odds to win the Big 12 Championship have been released heading into Week 6 (All odds are courtesy of Polymarket). Four different teams are over the 15% mark, while double-digit share odds at 2% — all as of late Wednesday night.
Let’s check out the full thing below, beginning at the top. There is a major change at the top, potentially providing some surprise. Instead of heading to Lubbock, the top of the odds call Salt Lake City home.
Say hello to the new Big 12 favorite on Polymarket. Utah has taken the odds by storm, shooting up to No. 1 and by a decent margin. After being well behind this time last week, the Utes are now in the driver’s seat.
The weirdest part? Utah did not even play a game this week. A bye week was given in order to recover from the early parts of the season. Now, the Utes are considered frontrunners in the Big 12 ahead of an eight-game stretch.
Texas Tech falling to 19% as of Wednesday night is a dramatic shift in the market. In last week’s odds piece, the Red Raiders were far and away No. 1 in the odds at 33%. Now, there is some catching up to do.
All this comes after Texas Tech went on the road and got a win in Boulder. Folks in Lubbock would tell you they are not playing the best offensive football. Defensively is where they have shone thus far.
This is where the major changes stop in the odds, at least in the top three. BYU remains at No. 3 at 18%. Not the best result in Fort Worth on Saturday, only scoring 17 points (two Bear Bachmeier rushing TDs and a field goal).
Yes, BYU has multiple massive Big 12 games remaining. However, the biggest one left on the schedule might be the Notre Dame matchup. There are no conference stakes on the line. Instead, BYU will be thinking big-picture with the College Football Playoff.
Here comes Oklahoma State, who entered the year considered an underdog selection. Eric Morris has completely revamped the program and brought in his own personnel to get the Cowboys back on track.
Losing to Tulsa Week 1 provided a lot of confusion. It was wiped away one week later by beating Oregon. Now, Oklahoma State is looking to match the Oregon performance on a weekly basis against the Big 12.
Not much was thought about Baylor following the opening loss to Auburn. Two games against nonconfernece opponents put them on the back burner as well. But the Bears appear to be trending in the right direction.
Two games into the Big 12 campaign, it’s two wins for Dave Aranda‘s squad. Quarterback DJ Lagway took some time to get healthy and is playing well. Thankfully for them, the bye week comes at a good time.
This begins a long, long stretch of teams sitting at 2%. Arizona is the first team listed by Polymarket, who got back in the winner’s column on Saturday. An early-season loss to BYU put them in a hole in the Big 12, now sitting at 1-1.
Arizona is about to take one of the longer flights of the entire 2026 season. Wheels up from Tucson, only for the plane to travel to Morgantown. As if playing a conference game was hard enough, the Wildcats now have to deal with travel.
Kenny Dillingham likely was not happy with how his team played vs. Baylor. This came fresh off a bye week as well, which was much-needed after traveling to London. Still, Arizona State wanted a better result.
Odds to win the Big 12 are not all too pretty. If nothing else, the Sun Devils can take solace in being clumped together with most of the conference. Winning another game or two might be required to move up.
Cincinnati is another team with a 1-1 record in Big 12 play. The loss came to the team slotted two spots above them, going out to the desert. All part of the expanded Big 12 experience, having to rack up some miles.
The trips are not over for the Bearcats either. Before the season ends, Cincinnati will go down to Houston and over to Provo. Home games become all the more important, needing to get results in your own backyard.
Per the official Big 12 standings, Colorado sits in 15th place. Only two other teams hold a record of 0-2. Both of them are listed below in the odds list. Not exactly the type of company Deion Sanders wants to be in.
Overall, Houston has to be enjoying the 2026 season. Through five games, just one tally is in the loss column. Every single goal remains ahead of the Cougars, fighting for a spot in Arlington and AT&T Stadium.
Traders on Polymarket are not buying into that, though. Houston is down at 2% with 10 other teams despite being ranked in the AP Poll. A clear disconnect from what voters in the polls think of the Cougars.
T-6. Iowa State Cyclones – 2%
T-6. Kansas State Wildcats – 2%
