Pro Football Hall of Famer Charles Woodson is, to put it nicely, a persona non grata in East Tennessee. That's because he was a protagonist in one of the biggest perceived wrongs in the history of the Tennessee Vols' football program.
Now, that unpleasant memory has come flooding back to some fans with a social media post making its way across the internet. It appears as though Woodson's son has an interest in perhaps donning the orange and white, at least according to one of his social media pages. Charles Woodson, Jr. posted on Sunday a picture of him in Tennessee football gear with Neyland Stadium in the background.

Many Tennessee fans probably already cringed when they say the name Woodson a few paragraphs earlier, and that's because he was the winner of the 1997 Heisman Trophy over Vols legend Peyton Manning. Manning led the Vols to the 1997 SEC Championship in his senior season, throwing for 3819 yards with 36 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, winning the Maxwell Award given to the nation's most outstanding player.
However, that wasn't enough to bring home Tennessee's first-ever Heisman Trophy, as the Michigan defender's strong play, which helped the Wolverines claim a share of the national title, was enough to earn the hardware in a rare instance of a defensive player claiming the sport's top honor. And the outrage hasn't subsided for some Vol fans to this day.
Woodson, Jr. is listed as a four-star recruit out of Orlando, FL (Lake Nona HS) and holds offers from Ole Miss, Kentucky, Michigan, Syracuse, Florida State, and Texas A&M, among others, according to 247 Sports and On3 Sports. Tennessee isn't listed among them, but it appears as though Josh Heupel and his staff have been in touch with the legendary cornerback's son.
It would certainly be interesting to see the name "Woodson" on the back of a Tennessee jersey in 2027. Perhaps in a way it would even be an amusing for of payback from the karma gods 30 years after the fact.
