A pair of Iowa Football student-athletes announced on Thursday that they would be entering the transfer portal. Quarterback turned receiver, James Resar, and fullback Rusty VanWetzinga IV decided to look for new homes.
Thank you Iowa for a great 2 years. After a coaching/system change over the past year on offense I have decided it is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility left as a Linebacker/Fullback. (DM for Iowa fullback Film)https://t.co/wpUupV6EgB

The duo followed fellow 2024 Hawkeyes Leshon Williams, Kaleb Brown, Jeff Bowie and Cade McNamara in seeking other opportunities. More exits were expected, along with additions, in the new world of free agency in the sport.
VanWetzinga walked on at Iowa as a member of the 2023 recruiting class. He played in last year's bowl game and then appeared in four contests this Fall without registering any statistics. His younger brother, Joey VanWetzinga, signed with the Hawkeyes as a member fo the '25 class.
Resar arrived on campus from Jacksonville in June as a quarterback but was moved to receiver during the season. He did not appear in a game.
Iowa now has lost four scholarship quarterback recruits beginning with the '20 cycle. Deuce Hogan, Joe Labas and Carson May also exited Fellow Hawkeye signal callers Spencer Petras, Alex Padilla and Deacon Hill also flew the coop during this decade.
