North Texas quarterback Drew Mestemaker is set to enter the transfer portal when it opens this Friday.

Mestemaker released a statement on his official Twitter/X account on Monday, thanking North Texas for everything.

"After much thought and prayer, I've made the decision to enter my name into the transfer portal," part of Mestemaker's statement read. "This was not an easy choice. My time at North Texas has meant more to me than I can ever fully express. North Texas was the only school that believed in me enough to give me an opportunity as a walk-on when others didn't, and for that, this place will always hold a special place in my heart. From the moment I arrived, it felt like home, and I've grown tremendously both as a player and as a person."

Mestemaker spent two seasons at North Texas and had his best season in 2025, finishing with 4,379 yards passing, 34 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

There's no doubt that multiple Power Four schools will be trying to recruit him out of the portal when it opens this Friday. He has three more years of eligibility, which will be super appealing to other schools.

The transfer portal officially opens on Jan. 2 and remains open for two weeks through Jan. 16. It's an opportunity for players to transfer to other schools if they're unhappy at their current school or want a bigger opportunity.

It's also an opportunity for programs to flip their rosters to try to compete right away. Let's see where Mestemaker ends up.
