70-year-old Nick Saban on being at Alabama through 2030: 'I sure plan to be here coaching'

Earlier this week, Alabama made Nick Saban the highest-paid coach in the country, signing him to an eight-year, $93.6 million contract extension.

The deal runs through the 2030 season when Saban will be 79 years old. Now 70 years old, many wonder if Saban will finish the remainder of the extension.

When asked by reporters this week if he'd still be around in 2030, Saban responded with a joke while reiterating his commitment to the program.

"Still alive?" Saban told ESPN's Chris Low. "I sure plan to be here coaching."

Saban said age is just a number, and although he'll be 71 in October, he's still the same coach. He added that his longevity was due to his willingness to grow with the game.

"First of all, I feel like a young man, all right? So let's clear that up," Saban said. "The 71...is a number, just a number, and I still like they don't make 'em like they used to, but you have to be flexible. I think that's one of the most important things about competitive sports."

Saban will kick off his 16th season with the Crimson Tide on Saturday, Sept. 3, when Alabama hosts Utah State in their season opener.
