A Major College Football Upset Happend on Friday Night

A FBS college football program was humbled on Friday night when they lost in double overtime to a FCS program from Texas.

The Army Black Knights entered their Week 1 contest as 14.5-point favorites to defeat the Tarleton State Texans. But three turnovers doomed Army in a 30-27 upset in front of 23,032 fans at Michie Stadium in West Point, New York.

A major college football upset happened on Friday night

The Texans scored the first points of the ballgame via a 30-yard field goal by Brad Larson in the first quarter. The two programs battled back and forth, with Army taking a 17-10 lead at halftime.

The Black Knights scored the first points of the second half via a 37-yard touchdown run by Hayden Reed to make it 24-10 with 8:14 remaining in the third quarter. But their offense was unable to score another point in the game,

Army’s next three possessions ended in two interceptions and a fumble. They punted twice, and Dawson Jones missed a potential game-winning 43-yard field goal with seven seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

The Black Knights and Texans scored field goals in the first period of overtime, but Army missed its field goal attempt in the second period. Larson made his 37-yard field goal attempt to give Tarleton State its second-ever win over an FBS program.

Running back Caleb Lewis had a strong night for the Texans, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

The loss was humbling for the AAC program Army, whichhas a difficult matchup coming up in Week 2. The Black Knights will travel to play No. 17 Kansas State, hungry to get back into the win column after dropping its season opener against No. 22 Iowa State in Week 0. Army hung around the Top 25 late in 2024, but this start was an embarrassing showing for the program

The Texans are now 2-0 after defeating Portland State 42-0 in Week 0. They will host Miss Valley St. in Week 2.
