The 2022 Michigan football season ended early on New Year’s Eve of last year when the Wolverines fell less than a touchdown short of an appearance in the College Football National Championship game. On Monday, the Michigan Wolverines turned a new page — the start of Michigan spring ball, which is the first of many steps towards the 2023 season this fall.

During the Wolverines’ first spring practice, they may have found a rising star among their ranks: 2023 four-star defensive back Cameron Calhoun.

Calhoun turns heads during Michigan spring ball

Cameron Calhoun is a former four-star defensive back prospect (247) that signed with the Michigan Wolverines during the 2023 recruiting class — Jim Harbaugh’s newest class of Wolverines. As a recruit, Calhoun ranked No. 395 nationally, No. 45 for cornerbacks, and No. 12 in Ohio. He is a product of Winton Woods High School in Cincinnati, OH.

On Monday, it became clear that Calhoun is already a rising star in the Maize and Blue — just look at this incredible pick-six snag by the true freshman:

Could Calhoun see a major role this season?

With many question marks surrounding Michigan’s 2023 cornerback depth, there is a chance that Cameron Calhoun finds a role as a true freshman this season. While some may not want such a young player on the field with the starting defense, let me remind Michigan football fans that Will Johnson, PFF’s No. 3 returning corner in the nation, was a freshman a year ago.

I am not saying that Calhoun has the same hype or expectations, though if the video from Michigan spring ball is any indication, it would be a good idea to remember the name come fall.
