After yet another crazy week in the ACC, there were some wild performances to highlight. My top performers in the ACC this week were DL Ahmed Moten Sr. of No. 13 Miami (9-2, 5-2) and RB Ja’Kyrian Turner of Pitt (8-3, 6-1). Others that performed well were SMU QB Kevin Jennings and Pitt LB Rasheem Biles.

Moten Explodes for Miami

Miami had another good performance against the Virginia Tech Hokies (3-8, 2-5) to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. Miami’s defense has stepped up since their slide a few weeks ago averaging just 10 points per game allowed in their past three games. With an incredibly deep roster a different player shines every week, and it was Moten this week.

Moten had a great performance in the 34-17 win against the Hokies putting up three tackles for loss and two sacks. His relentless pressure led to Hokies’ QB Kyron Drones having to scramble out of the pocket many times. Drones had 14 carries but only 31 yards to show for it. The pressure led by Moten and DE Reuben Bain Jr. played a huge part in slowing down the Virginia Tech offense.

Turner Cuts Through Jackets’ Defense

Pitt had a wild game to hand No. 16 Georgia Tech (9-2, 6-2) their second conference loss of the season, which eliminated the Yellow Jackets from playoff contention. Pitt’s explosive offense was the story of this game which put up 42 points on the Georgia Tech defense. To seal off Georgia Tech’s comeback efforts Turner had a 56-yard touchdown to give Pitt a 14-point lead with less than three minutes remaining in the game.

The true freshman had an impressive performance with 21 carries for 201 yards and a touchdown. His explosive rushes put Pitt in a great position to win the football game. Beating Georgia Tech keeps Pitt in playoff contention and puts them in a position to go to the ACC Championship. With an important game against another tough opponent in Miami they might need another impressive performance from Turner. If Pitt takes down the Hurricanes, they would need a loss from Virginia (9-1, 6-2) to go to the ACC Championship.

Final Thoughts

Going into rivalry weekend the ACC has yet to shape out with many possibilities for the ACC Championship. Teams like SMU, Pitt, Miami, and Virginia all have make or break games this weekend to prove if they are worthy for the playoff bid winning the ACC Championship game would give them.

Moten and Turner face off head-to-head to keep their team’s playoff hopes alive. With both guys being game changing, we will see who can get the best of their opponent.
