In the ACC this week, many players stood out as there were seven great conference matchups. My two standout players this week are DT Terry Webb from SMU (5-3, 3-1) and QB Haynes King from No. 8 Georgia Tech (8-0, 5-0). While it was these two that stuck out the most, some other guys to keep on the radar were Miami RB Mark Fletcher, Louisville RB Isaac Brown and Virginia Tech DL Kemari Copeland

Dominance by the King

On Oct. 25, Georgia Tech continued their domination of the ACC beating Syracuse (3-5, 1-4) with a score of 41-16. Georgia Tech used their classic offense formation full of triple options and QB runs to confuse the Syracuse defense and stay ahead for the majority of the game.

King showed out passing 25-of-31 with 304 yards and three TDs. On top of his impressive passing stats, he added 91 rushing yards and two TDs on 12 carries which lead the game in rushing yards. King’s ability to keep the ball safe is what makes the difference for the team. On the season he has a total of three turnovers, two of which came in week one. This week he showed incredible pass accuracy with an 81 perent completion percentage. His scrambling ability is impressive using his 6-foot-3, 215 pound stature to run through defenders.

This week he had five total touchdowns and pushed his name up the Heisman Trophy list. As Georgia Tech continues to win, keep a close eye on King.

Stuck in the Webb

Coming off a big road win against Clemson (3-4, 2-3), SMU traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. to meet Wake Forest (5-2, 2-2). While SMU went home with a loss, the defense performed great, only allowing 13 points. SMU’s Webb had heavy control on the Wake Forest offense, applying pressure all game and picking up two sacks. His constant pressure eventually led to him getting a pass deflection and forced a bad throw by the Deacon QB which caused an interception. Webb also forced a fumble which was jumped on by a teammate which helped the Mustangs stay in this game.  Webb has broken out this season totaling 5.5 sacks which is already his season high.  Next week SMU faces a College Football Playoff contender in No. 10 Miami (6-1, 2-1). Look out for Webb to catch Carson Beck in the ACC matchup next week.

Don’t Be Surprised

Do not be surprised if King appears back on this list next week. The Yellow Jackets face off against the NC State Wolfpack (4-4, 1-3) who have not performed well defensively all season. This can lead to another four-plus TD game from King. SMU players continue to appear on the list. In the ACC they have three of the top 5 sack leaders. The Mustangs have a dominant pass rush and have made getting in the backfield a common occurrence.

Be prepared for week 10 as there are some amazing matchups where many players have a high chance to break out.
