For just the second time since 2021, the Alabama Crimson Tide will have a changing of the guard at the quarterback position.
Following a two-year run with dual-threat passer Jalen Milroe under center, Alabama will turn to one of Ty Simpson , Austin Mack, or Keelon Russell.
The leader in the clubhouse remains Simpson, the former five-star recruit in the 2022 class. Although some have reservations about Simpson's ability to play in the SEC following just 50 pass attempts in three years, one top college signal-caller believes he can push the team to a College Football Playoff bid.
"Guys like Arch (Manning), Garrett Nussmeier, Drew Allar, and Ty Simpson... The guys that believe in the program and believe in the culture that they're at... There's a reason that those are four of best quarterbacks in college football right now," said Clemson Tigers star quarterback and Heisman Trophy Award hopeful Cade Klubnik per Touchdown Alabama on Twitter.
Klubnik included Simpson in a quartet of passers that have stacked accolades during their time in college. Allar led the Penn State Nittany Lions to a College Football Playoff win in 2024, while Manning threw nine touchdowns against just two picks in relief of an injured Quinn Ewers for a 13-3 Texas Longhorns squad.
As for Simpson, he went 14-of-25 for 167 yards. He also ran for 44 yards and a score. Although inexperienced, Simpson enters the season as a former top high school recruit who won the backup quarterback job behind Milroe last season.
