Over 18 months ago, BYU picked up a commitment from defensive end prospect Adney Reid. Reid's commitment came as a relative surprise considering he was living in Australia at the time. On Wednesday, Reid became an official member of the BYU football program when he signed with BYU.

Reid might be the best signee that nobody is talking about. Listed at 6'5, he has the size and athleticism to be a dynamic edge rusher at the next level. Don't let the under-the-radar nature of his recruitment fool you: Reid could end up being one of the best signees in this class. He plans to serve a mission before enrolling at BYU.

Reid took official visits to BYU and Utah over the Summer. The Utes made a push but Adney stayed locked in with BYU.

Reid's recruitment never blew up since he was living in Australia and was unable to play high school football. Adney is the son of former BYU tight end Gabe Reid who is currently serving as the mission president of the Australia Sydney mission. The Reid's moved to Australia in July of 2021 to begin their missionary service. Adney moved with his family to Sydney that Summer after his freshman season of high school. He has been playing basketball and rugby in Australia.

Prior to moving, Adney prepped at Spanish Fork High School. He showed enough on tape as a freshman to earn scholarship offers from both BYU and Utah. He picked the Cougars over the Utes and stayed committed throughout the process.

Adney comes from a football family. His Dad played at BYU before moving on to the NFL. Adney is also the cousin of Gabe Reid and Karene Reid who played for the University of Utah.
