Aidan Chiles Needs a Breakout Season for Michigan State Football to Succeed

2024 was a very up-and-down season for Michigan State football, and more or less for the team's starting quarterback. Aidan Chiles came into the 2024 season with the starting job well in hand.

Were expectations high in year one of Jonathan Smith? No, but winning six games should have been obtainable. Too bad inconsistent play from the QB spot, along with too many turnovers, ended up costing the Spartans.

They went 5-7 and only won twice within Spartan Stadium. Chiles is once again the top guy going into the 2025 season. Now he has to deliver. It's his third season being coached by Smith and working with offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren.

Chiles finished the 2024 campaign with 2,415 yards through the air along with 13 touchdowns. However, his 11 picks thrown led the Big Ten. The picks and fumbles have to be much lower in 2025.

Chiles has plenty of talent, and he showcased it in moments throughout last season. His best games came against Maryland and Iowa last season. If he can replicate that every week, the sky's the limit.

Some of the troubles for Chiles last season were all of the injuries up front. Jonathan Smith made it his mission to improve the roster makeup through the transfer portal.

Chiles will have plenty of weapons out wide, with Nick Marsh leading the receiving corps, along with two major transfers in Omari Kelly and Chrishon McCray

Chiles will certainly have a good couple of games at the start of this coming season to square everything away. Nothing tops getting your confidence going when you have two home games against Western Michigan and Youngstown State to kick off the 2025 season.

The Spartans haven't had a quarterback reach the 20-passing touchdown mark since 2021, when Peyton Thorne threw for 27 touchdowns.

What he had was a once-in-a-lifetime running back to take the stress off, not to mention he had three NFL targets to throw to.

It's unforeseen if Aidan Chiles will have that type of weaponry this season, but one thing is for sure: he needs a breakout season for Michigan State to succeed.
