AJ McCarron Predicts Alabama's Starting QB Without Hesitation
Gary Cosby Jr.-Tuscaloosa News / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Alabama Crimson Tide superstar AJ McCarron knows a thing or two about the quarterback position.

From 2011 to 2013, McCarron led Alabama to a 36-4 record as the team's starting passer, hoisting two national championship trophies and finishing runner-up in Heisman Trophy Award voting as a senior.

Following his tenure with the Crimson Tide, the six-foot-four passer carved out a respectable ten-year professional career before turning in his cleats for a microphone.

Now the co-host of The Dynasty Podcast, McCarron, alongside former teammate and Heisman-winning running back Mark Ingram and Alabama announcer Chris Stewart, speaks on all things Crimson Tide, including the state of the football program.

Following the departure of starting quarterback Jalen Milroe, second-year head coach Kalen DeBoer has turned his sights on a three-way quarterback battle between Ty Simpson, Keelon Russell, and Austin Mack. McCarron believes that Simpson will emerge victorious when the dust settles.

"I think it's his job to lose," said McCarron about Simpson on his podcast.

He continued, saying, "I have worked with Ty, have trained with him in the past, even when he was a young pup coming out of high school. I think he has a ton of arm talent. He can make every throw on the field. I think he's very underrated using his feet as well."

Simpson is the oldest in the Alabama quarterback room but also joined the Crimson Tide with an elite pedigree. He was the fourth-ranked quarterback in the 2022 class per 247Sports.

Meanwhile, Mack came over with DeBoer when the latter took the head coaching position at Alabama and left the Washington Huskies. As for Russell, he is a true freshman but is a five-star recruit with a play style more similar to the team's predecessor.
