Alabama football’s sophomore, Red Morgan is one of the many versatile defensive backs in the Crimson Tide’s secondary.
Morgan saw playing time in 12 games at safety and on special teams as a true freshman during the 2024 season. He lined up in the HUSKY role in the Tide’s secondary in his first season. The role is essentially a hybrid safety role.
The spring brought about a new challenge for the Phenix City product as he spent a lot of time with Alabama’s cornerbacks. The Tide’s linebacker, Deonta Lawson confirmed Morgan has switched to cornerback at SEC Media Days and provided an update on the transition.
“Definitely got some learning still to do,” Lawson said. “But giving it everything he’s got every day and coming to work every day and trying to learn as much as he can. Red’s a freak athlete. He has all the tools to be a great player. It’s now just developing into more of a scheme-type of player and doing what’s best for the team. He’s attacking that full head on.”
Kalen DeBoer highlighted Morgan as an interchangeable piece in Alabama’s secondary during the spring.
“Between the corner and safety room, there is interchangeable pieces,” DeBoer said. “There is kind of a dual training that exist. Red Morgan can play multiple spots, and I’m just thinking about what the fan base would have seen a year ago. He was in different spots, safety, corner…We have multiple guys that can do a lot of those things.”
