Alabama Defender Named Nagurski Defensive Player of The Week
USA TODAY Sports

The No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide defeated the No. 17 Tennessee Volunteers this past weekend thanks to a second-half shutout that enabled the home team to mount a 13-point comeback.

The effort was bolstered in the end by a defensive touchdown that ultimately served as the nail the the Volunteers coffin, allowing Alabama to avenge its loss from the previous year.

Alabama sophomore linebacker Jihaad Campbell was named Bronko Nagurski Defensive Player of The Week for his efforts on "The Third Saturday in October".

Campbell, playing in place of injured starter Trezmen Marshall recorded 10 tackles, six of them were solo stops and one was for a loss. Additionally it was Campbell who benefited off of Chris Braswell's sack and forced fumble in the fourth quarter by scooping the ball off the turf and scoring the non-offensive touchdown that gave Alabama a 14-point lead.

The Crimson Tide defense held Tennessee to just 129 yards in the second half with only 33 of them coming on the ground.

Campbell has filled in admirably for Alabama for both Marshall and Deontae Lawson when either have missed time for injury. He's recorded 39 tackles with one interception and now the fumble recovery while playing in seven of the Tide's eight games.

The sophomore came to Alabama as a 5-star prospect in the class of 2022 and played sparingly on defense as a freshman. He's made a significant impact this season tallying 14 tackles against Mississippi State in his only other start this season.
