Alabama Legend Takes Hilarious Dig at Nick Saban and Urban Meyer

Former Alabama Crimson Tide starting halfback Mark Ingram II thinks all-time great head coach Urban Meyer is similar in some aspects to Ingram's former coach, Nick Saban.

Saban, 73, led the Crimson Tide to a winning record for 16 consecutive seasons from 2007-23. During that span, he won six national championships.

Meanwhile, Meyer has a coaching resume that speaks for itself after spending 16 seasons from 2003-19 at the college level. He led the Florida Gators from 2005-11 and led the program to two national championships and two SEC titles.

From 2011-19, Meyer resided in Columbus as he was the Ohio State Buckeyes head coach. During that period, he helped Ohio State win the 2014 national championship and three Big Ten titles.

Considering both coaches' impressive resumes, Ingram sees multiple similarities in their coaching styles and desire to win. “They’re alike because they’re fierce competitors that want to be great and are sticklers for perfection,” Ingram told WAAY-TV reporter Trevor Denton during a recent interview.

“And if you don’t do something and get caught, you’re getting called out on it.”

However, Ingram noted a key and hilarious difference in their golf skills. “They’re not that much different because they both sandbag in golf, too,” he concluded.

Even though Ingram has only been coached by Saban, there have been instances where Meyer played golf with and against him. Furthermore, they joined forces on the putting green during the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge, a charity golf event held at the same time as the annual Peach Bowl playoff game.
