Alabama football’s linebacker room will be tasked with replacing the ultra-productive Jihaad Campbell in 2025.

The group returns veteran linebacker, Deontae Lawson, and has another veteran in Nikhai Hill-Green, who transferred from Colorado after the 2024 season at its disposal. Justin Jefferson is also back in Tuscaloosa for a third season.

Lawson told reporters this group is hungry to make an impact at SEC Media Days.

“First things first, I think those guys are starving and with Nikhai being a vet, I think we needed another one in the room.” Lawson said. “He definitely has showed some maturity and what he does every day. We also got Justin Jefferson that has been there for a couple years and know what it takes to be a starter and know what it take to produce. I’m very excited for our position groups and our position group, and I’m excited to see where it goes.”

Hill-Green started in 11 games for the Buffaloes on last season. He finished the year with 82 total tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Tim Keenan III praised him during the spring.

“He’s done a great job of managing the defense….having great poise, great communication when we’re in,” Keenan III said. “I can’t wait to see how he does.”

Jefferson had 61 tackles in 2024 while serving as a rotation piece at linebacker.

The room also has some young emerging talent. Cayden Jones and QB Reese flashed during the spring.

Alabama’s defense is expected to be a strong unit led by effective play at the linebacker position.
