Alabama Makes Huge Transfer Portal Addition on Wednesday

The Alabama Crimson Tide have officially landed West Virginia transfer tight end Jack Sammarco, adding much-needed depth to the position. The 6-foot-5, 260-pound redshirt freshman played in all 13 games for the Mountaineers last season, primarily serving as a blocker. While his receiving numbers were limited to just one catch for 13 yards, his size and physicality make him an intriguing addition to the Crimson Tide’s offense.

Sammarco brings versatility to Alabama’s tight end room, which was thin throughout spring practice. He played 203 snaps last season, with 80 of his 95 offensive snaps coming as an in-line tight end. His ability to engage defenders at the line of scrimmage and create space for ball carriers fits well with Alabama’s run-heavy approach.

A former three-star recruit out of Anderson High School in Cincinnati, Sammarco earned All-State honors after recording 315 yards and five touchdowns on 27 catches in high school. His combination of size, blocking ability, and potential as a pass-catcher makes him a strong fit for Alabama’s offensive system.

With three years of eligibility remaining, Sammarco has plenty of time to develop under Alabama’s coaching staff. If he can refine his receiving skills, he could become a valuable red-zone target while continuing to contribute as a blocker. His commitment gives Alabama another option at a position that lacked depth, and he’ll have the opportunity to carve out a meaningful role in Tuscaloosa.
