Another big-name head coach candidate can be crossed off of Alabama’s list.

Mike Norvell has signed a massive contract extension with Florida State, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports. The new deal will reportedly pay the coach $10 million per year.

Shortly after Dellenger shared the news, Norvell seemingly confirmed it with a post on X.

“GREAT DAY to be a FLORIDA STATE SEMINOLE!! The #CLIMBContinues grateful for to lead the #NoleFamily with our incredible staff. Appreciate @PresMcCullough @SeminoleAlford and @Seminoles for continued commitment on our journey back to the TOP! The Future is bright in Tallahassee,” Norvell wrote.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel said Thursday that Alabama was focusing on two candidates to replace Nick Saban, who stunned the sports world when he announced his retirement this week. Norvell was viewed as one potential successor, while Washington’s Kalen DeBoer is the other. DeBoer has yet to make any announcements pledging his allegiance to the Huskies.

Norvell has been at Florida State for four seasons after previously coaching Memphis for another four. He went 38-16 at Memphis and he has gone 31-17 at FSU. The 42-year-old from Texas completely turned the Seminoles around and had them 13-0 this season before the team got snubbed by the College Football Playoff committee.

Norvell is not the first noteworthy coach to announce he is staying with his current team, so Alabama may be running out of options.
