The 2024 meeting between Alabama and Georgia was arguably one of the best games of the season.
There were multiple memorable moments like Crimson Tide receiver Ryan Williams scoring a 75-yard touchdown catch with his Micheal Jackson-esque moves near the sideline or Zabien Brown’s interception to seal the game, but perhaps offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor blocking two Bulldog defenders was the most impressive moment of the game.
“On that play at Georgia where Kadyn held up two guys, you got to be a really good player to be able to do that, and obviously he is,” center Parker Brailsford said on the newest episode of The Bama Standard.
Toward the end of the second quarter, Alabama called a pass play. Georgia dialed up pressure and outnumbered the Alabama offensive line. Guard Tyler Booker took care of an interior rusher, but two guys came barreling in from the edge. The only player who had a chance of stopping the two defenders from getting to quarterback Jalen Milroe was Proctor.
“Split second decision,” Proctor said. “Like, you don’t have enough time to think or do too much. They both came into the C-gap, so I was like, ‘That’s my responsibility, so I’m going to block it how it should be.’ I’m trying to give Milroe the time to throw that ball off. I’m just hoping and praying that he gets the ball off.”
Proctor put a hand on each defender and used his strength to slow down Georgia’s pass rush just long enough for Milroe to deliver a sideline strike to tight end Josh Cuevas for a positive gain.
“Obviously we weren’t expecting them to bring two off the edge, and it happened, so he saved the play by doing that. He was the hero of that play,” Brailsford said.
