Alabama QB Bryce Young closing in on $1M in endorsements

Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback Bryce Young is approaching $1 million in endorsement deals, The Athletic reported Tuesday.

Head coach Nick Saban said that, while the sophomore QB hasn't been named the 2021 season's starter yet, his brand is turning a big profit under the NCAA's new NIL policy.

"It’s almost seven figures," Saban remarked. "And it's like, the guy hasn't even played yet. But that's because of our brand."

Indeed, playing for a high-profile school like Alabama can already boost a student-athlete's celebrity. The prospect of being a starting quarterback certainly pushes things to the next level.

"Certain positions, probably, enhance opportunities to create value, like quarterback, and our quarterback (Young) already has approached ungodly numbers — I'm not going to say what they are — and he hasn't even played yet. Hasn't even started," Saban said.

Young did in fact play in seven games for the Crimson Tide last season as Mac Jones's backup. (Jones was selected with the 15th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots.) The Pasadena, Calif., native completed 13-of-22 passes for 156 yards and a touchdown.
