Alabama S DeMarcco Hellams Drafted By Atlanta Falcons

Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back DeMarcco Hellams is the latest to join an NFL team — drafted by the Atlanta Falcons with the 224th overall pick in the seventh round. 

Hellams started for the Crimson Tide 25 times over the last two seasons, playing alongside Jordan Battle. He led the team with 108 tackles in 2022-23, while also picking up an interception.

He had three interceptions during the 2021-22 season.

He is the 10th Alabama player taken in this year's draft, joining Bryce Young (Panthers), Will Anderson Jr. (Texans), Jahmyr Gibbs (Lions), Brian Branch (Lions), Tyler Steen (Eagles), Byron Young (Raiders), Jordan Battle (Bengals), Cameron Latu (49ers) and Henry To'oTo'o (Texans)

"Boundary safety with good size and adequate anticipation but a lack of quality make-up burst when beaten over the top. Hellams can cover tight ends and is comfortable in split zone looks but needs to do a much better job of staying deeper than the deepest target. He’s fairly consistent as a tackler but doesn’t always take the most efficient routes to the ball. He’s physical and can play high or low. Hellams has a chance to become a good backup and plus special teams player."
