Alabama suffers another blow, top recruit Javier Morton decommits from program

The hits keep on coming for head coach Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide ahead of Saturday’s season opener against Duke.

Short term, the Crimson Tide are going to be short-handed following the suspensions of four key players for the first half of the season opener. Meanwhile, All-American linebacker Dylan Moses suffered a torn ACL in practice on Tuesday and is out for the season.

Now, according to this report from Hank South of 247 Sports, four-star safety recruit Javier Morton of Alabama’s 2020 class has decided to decommit from the program.

“I’m de-committed. Really just been trying to focus on myself as far as my personal life. Really just working by myself. Alabama gave me the best opportunity. I always wanted to go to Alabama,” Morton noted. “Unfortunately things just didn’t go as planned — how we’ve seen the plan, how they’ve seen the plan, and how I’ve seen the plan. It’s time to take a different route and re-open my recruitment.”

According to ESPN, Morton was the 16th-ranked safety in next year’s class. He also ranked 26th overall in the state of Georgia after starring at Stephenson High School.

It remains to be seen exactly where Morton will land. He had received offers from California, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Penn State, among others, before choosing Bama back in December of 2017.
