Alabama Transfer Linebacker Finds New Home in ACC

More Alabama Crimson Tide transfers are finding new homes as the offseason unfolds and one of them is heading to an ACC program.

On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett reported on Friday that Alabama linebacker Sterling Dixon has committed to NC State. The 6-foot-3 former Crimson Tider will have a full four years of eligibility remaining upon his arrival to Dave Doeren's program in Raleigh.

A Spanish Fort, AL, native, Dixon was a highly sought after four-star prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and signed with Alabama over the likes of Auburn, Miami, and Texas A&M. He ended up enrolling early in Tuscaloosa last January. The linebacker didn't make much of an impact during his lone season with the Crimson Tide, however, appearing in just three games and registering a single tackle in the team's season opener against Western Kentucky.

Just three game appearances allowed for him to preserve his redshirt and he ultimately decided to enter the transfer portal just days after the team's loss to Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl. A number of schools quickly showed interest in his services, including North Carolina, Houston, and West Virginia. He ultimately decided to go to NC State, where he figures to have a shot at more playing time for a program coming off a disappointing 6-7 campaign.

Dixon joined the likes of Jeremiah Alexander and Justin Oronkwo on the list of Alabama linebackers to depart the program following the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year's Eve. The Tide have mitigated these losses somewhat with the addition of former Colorado linebacker Nikhai Hill-Green from the portal, as well as the possibility of veteran Justin Jefferson being granted another year of eligibility.
