Alabama football’s true freshman quarterback Keelon Russell was asked if he had any thoughts about entering the NCAA transfer portal on Tuesday.
“Nah man,” Russell said. “I’m 100 percent here. I am worried about the Rose Bowl, going out there to do my thing, helping Ty out. Just worry about the next step in this journey this year.”
Russell is a former five-star quarterback. He is one of two quarterbacks listed as the Tide’s second-string quarterbacks on its official depth chart. He and Austin Mack’s name are separated by an “OR” on the depth chart, but Mack has come in and taken pretty much all of the limited second-team reps as the first quarterback off the sideline, behind Ty Simpson.
The freshman has played in two games this season for Alabama. He completed 11 of his 15 passing attempts for 143 passing yards and two touchdowns.
It is unclear how the Tide’s quarterback room will look next season. Ty Simpson is eligible to enter the NFL Draft, but he also has the option to return to college football.
Simpson was asked about his future plans on Tuesday.
“I hadn’t really thought about it much, to be honest with you, just because of the big game coming up,” Simpson said.
