There is no other way to say this. Former Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts completely betrayed the entire athletic department. It was announced on Wednesday that he was taking the same position with Texas A&M.

It was a surprise move for fans especially, as many of them viewed Alberts as a key piece for the future of the athletic department. It even caught some within the athletic department by surprise.

Instead, Trev Alberts will take his talents to College Station, where he will lead the Aggies into what is a very active and ever-changing collegiate landscape.

We don’t entirely know what went on behind the scenes or what is going on behind the scenes at Nebraska. The board of regents has been taking a lot of the blame on social media, not just now, but over the years. They have been taking heat over the years for a variety of things, and now they are in the spotlight once again.

Given how Nebraska has no president, Chancellor, or athletic director at the moment, the heat is undoubtedly justified. The lack of organization at the top is alarming, and you have to wonder if that was a motivating factor for Alberts to leave Nebraska.

Aside from just the regents, this is a dark day for Nebraska athletics. Alberts was thought to be the guy who would lead Nebraska into the future. Multiple athletic programs were on the upswing. Matt Rhule was his first higher as athletic director, and it seemed as though there was finally some stability in the athletic department. Now, Nebraska will have to start over once again.

Trev Albert’s departure marks dark day

This is a dark day for Nebraska athletics. Trev Alberts was thought to be   someone who could lead the program into the future. After all, he signed a massive extension in November. Now, Nebraska will be faced with uncertainty once again. This of course is nothing new for Nebraska, as they have had to deal with endless athletic director changes, coach firings, and moving parts over the better part of the last decade and a half. Even still, Alberts departure hurts quite a bit.

It seems as though every time Nebraska athletics makes some sort of progress, struggles ensue. Balance and continuity were finally in place in the department itself under Alberts. Now, they will have to start over once again. It’s probably true that nothing will change once changes are made at the top. However, Alberts sudden departure stings, and has angered Nebraska supporters.

They should be angry, quite frankly. In true Nebraska fashion, the athletic department was so close to succeeding but yet so far away.
