The Texas Longhorns added one of the best safeties in the transfer portal this off-season in Clemson S Andrew Mukuba. The former Tiger started ten games in 2023 accounting for 28 tackles and six pass breakups. Mukaba recently went on the Behind the Facemask Podcast to talk about why he felt the need to leave Clemson.
“I felt like I wasn’t really getting better,” Mukuba said. “I wasn’t being pushed enough to where I could reach my potential and my peak. The program wasn’t where it needed to be for me and the whole team to be successful. After my junior year, I felt like it was the same thing. After that, it was only right for me to transfer.”

These are strong words from the Senior safety as Clemson has been known as one of the premier programs in college football winning national championships in 2016 and 2018. Mukuba will now start his new journey as a Longhorn and he talked about the fresh start and how his time at Texas has gone so far.
“Everything has played to my favor,” Mukuba continued. “I’m looking to have a big year, and there isn’t any better place to do it than in a big league like the SEC. Coach Sark is a real standup guy. He’s a father figure. He cares about his players and where the program is heading. He was the coach I wanted to play for.”

Mukuba will now look to continue to improve the Longhorn’s secondary which was ranked 107th in the nation in total pass defense last season. Texas will open up the season on August 31st versus Colorado State at DKR-Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN at 2:30 Central Time.
