Anonymous Big Ten head coach makes bold statement about the program that Ryan Day has helped continue at Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been one of the most impressive college football programs over the past couple of decades.

Urban Meyer was able to build on the foundation Jim Tressel established, and Ryan Day has continued Meyer’s success—perhaps even elevating the program to new heights.

Athlon Sports recently released their annual feature in which anonymous coaches from around college football share their thoughts. One Big Ten coach had high praise for Day’s program:

“Year in and year out, this is the most talented program in the league and one of the most talented in the nation. The question every season is just if they can arrange that talent the right way.”

The goal at Ohio State remains the same, even with the expanded College Football Playoff format: beat Michigan and contend for a National Championship. The Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the fourth consecutive time last season, but their National Championship win helped erase much of the sting from that loss.

Ryan Day holds a 70–10 record as head coach in Columbus, and the Buckeyes rarely lose Big Ten games. While they’ve experienced some late-season setbacks over the years—often at the hands of Michigan—they’re consistently in the national title conversation.

In 2025, Ohio State’s goal will be to defend their National Championship and attempt the rare feat of going back-to-back, something that’s notoriously difficult to achieve in college football. The Buckeyes will start the season at home with a Cotton Bowl rematch against the Texas Longhorns. Texas is another team that has high hopes for the 2025 college football season.
