The Texas Longhorns finally looked like a watchable team on Saturday with their first blowout of the season. However, everyone knows that almost every reasonably good team could do this. Arch Manning is now under fire for a rather cocky move after making it 14-0 in the first quarter.
Arch Manning has come off as this humble guy his entire career… but staring a guy from Sam Houston State down like this is CRINGE.
I get he’s having fun, but Arch hasn’t really earned the right to act like this quite yet.

Let’s be completely honest, this wasn’t a beautiful move by Manning, who has projected himself as a humble person. After scoring a rushing touchdown, Manning, for some reason, felt compelled to taunt the opposing player. People get the excitement of a touchdown, but this season has seen such acts punished much more severely. Manning wasn’t punished, but it didn’t look like an excellent move at all.
The Sam Houston Bearcats is playing just its 3rd season in the FBS, while the Bearcats are 0-4 this season. In other words, it isn’t exactly hard to blow out Sam Houston. Any team could do this, so the need to celebrate exactly is unnecessary. Again, it is very exciting to score a touchdown. However, it isn’t hard for the formerly No. 1 team in the nation to beat one of the worst teams in the FBS. Many teams this season have done much worse.
There is one simple thing about the Texas Longhorns, every game this season, leading up to this 55-0 victory over Sam Houston, has been unimpressive. Against Ohio State, the Longhorns’ offense looked atrocious in route to their first loss of the season. Against San Jose State, Texas won 38-7, which isn’t very impressive. Especially when San Jose State barely survived the Idaho Vandals and lost to Central Michigan (who lost 63-3 to Michigan).
What was even more unimpressive was their victory over the UTEP Miners 27-10, who’s only victory was against UT Martin, an FCS team. 55-0 is a large improvement from looking ugly against their last two opponents. However, the Longhorns have much to improve on. The Florida Gators have looked atrocious to begin the season, but don’t be surprised if Texas is on major upset alert after a bye week. The main point? Don’t taunt a player from Sam Houston after looking like a clown on the field your first few weeks.
While watching the Nebraska-Michigan game, there was a moment of taunting. With the Nebraska Cornhuskers down 27-17 and failing to convert 3rd and long, a Michigan player taunted the sideline of Nebraska. This allowed the Huskers to get within a touchdown and eventually a field goal. The reality is that that play could’ve hurt the Wolverines badly had Nebraska scored a touchdown instead of a field goal that drive.
These stupid acts are giving teams unnecessary life. 34-17 potentially becomes 27-20 or worse, which is literally just dumb of players. Manning didn’t get punished for his stare down. However, these plays need to be stopped. If teams are leading by one score, are about to get the ball back, but give the ball right back to the team with momentum, it could cost the team a game. Not to mention, it is just not necessary to taunt, as it can easily turn a big play completely upside down.
Arch Manning got excited, as every player does. Not every one is Marvin Harrison Sr., who would score touchdowns and humbling give the ball right back to the referee. However, you have to have a compass, or it can hurt your team very badly. Not to mention, Texas is yet to have prove itself, as winning Sam Houston isn’t unimpressive. There is no need to taunt other teams when it could hurt your team severely.
