Arizona OT Jonah Savaiinaea 2025 NFL Draft Profile

Jonah Savaiinaea, OT, Arizona

Height: 6'5
Weight: 330 pounds

Strengths

  • Frame: Savaiinaea is a massive, broad, and thickly-built offensive lineman, boasting great length on top of that. He's tough to work around and through with his frame and length.
  • Play Strength: When Savaiinaea connects with defenders, that rep is just about over. He knocks rushers over and bullies opposing players. It's particularly encouraging to see the amount of movement he generates consistently against bigger defensive ends and defensive tackles.
  • Use of Hands: One of the most encouraging parts of Savainnaea's game is his use of hands. He's great at mixing up his strikes, his timing is impeccable, and his hands are accurate and strong. When paired with his length and play strength, Savaiinaea shuts down reps oftentimes with ease.
  • Awareness: Savainnaea's experience as a three-year starter shines on film with his ability to handle whatever defenses are throwing at him. His feel for the game is tremendous and has grown since 2023.

Weaknesses

  • Athleticism: While he isn't a poor athlete, I don't think Savaiinaea is a terrific athlete. His lower half is pretty stiff and limits his ability to handle speed and bend around the corner while at tackle. Savaiinaea will over-compensate for this weakness (more on that in a second), and then can be set up by faster or smarter edge rushers at the next level.
  • Footwork: Part of this is a stiff lower half, but I also think he has to continue ironing out his passing sets. I'm sure Savaiinaea playing out of position (a natural guard) doesn't help. He'll overset from his landmarks a little too often for me to be comfortable.

Player Evaluation

I enjoyed Jonah Savaiinaea's tape, but it was evident early on that his best position for the next level is inside at guard. While there are things that can suggest he could play tackle at the next level, it's not ideally suited for him and wouldn't be where he is best at.

However, there's a quality starter in Jonah Savaiinaea, in my opinion. I'm optimistic about his growth year over year, and his hand placement, play strength, frame, and awareness give him a great floor as an NFL offensive lineman.

Player Comparison

Michael Onwenu (New England Patriots)

Much like Savaiinaea, Onwenu is a guard/tackle hybrid that the Patriots have played pretty much everywhere in his NFL career. Onwenu can play at tackle but has played best inside at guard due to his struggles handling speed rushers on the outside. Teams can get by with Savaiinaea at tackle like the Patriots have, but ideally, the plan would be for him to step into the lineup inside at guard.
