The 2025 NFL Draft discussion at running back frequently starts with Boise State Broncos Ashton Jeanty, but Arizona State Sun Devils star Cam Skattebo is another player to watch. Skattebo is a major reason for Arizona State's surprise trip to the Big 12 championship.
Heading into the Big 12 title game, the Arizona State running back has posted 247 carries for 1,398 yards and 17 touchdowns. Skattebo has also added 35 receptions for 468 yards and two TDs through the air. According to ESPN's Matt Miller, Skattebo is drawing comparisons to Atlanta Falcons running back Tyler Allgeier and is projected to be a day-three pick.
Skattebo is unlikely to be a first-round selection, but the 5-foot-11, 225-pound rusher's punishing running style is going to garner interest among NFL teams. Pro Football Network's Dalton Miller's latest 2025 NFL mock draft has the Arizona Cardinals landing Skattebo in the fourth round with the No. 119 overall selection.
The addition would give star quarterback Kyler Murray another weapon to utilize. As Arizona looks to potentially make the playoffs in 2024, the team will continue to build around Murray whose five-year, $230 million contract is slated to run through the 2027 season. It is an added bonus that Skattebo would get to stay in the state of Arizona.
"He has rushed for 140 or more yards in six different games, including a 262-yard performance against Mississippi State on Sept. 7," Miller wrote. "At 5-foot-11 and 215 pounds, he's a punishing runner, and he has added 35 receptions for 468 yards and two scores.
"NFL scouts are excited about his potential as a power back — he's similar to the Atlanta Falcons' Tyler Allgeier — and see Skattebo as a mid-Day 3 prospect."
